Combat Medic Training is aimed at military or police officers who want to be able to provide more care than the basic level. Participants are taught a number of additional (lifesaving) skills to increase the deployability and/or chances of survival of a sick person or casualty.

A Combat Medic has the knowledge and skills to take care of a sick person or casualty for a few days. During this training, participants learn a number of risky and reserved measures. In the civilian healthcare system, these measures are reserved for (para)medically trained personnel and are laid down in the Individual Healthcare Professionals Act (Wet BIG). In exceptional situations, the Combat Medic may perform these measures during operational deployment if a number of specific conditions are met.

This training course follows on from the first level Combat Life Saver, although this is not required prior to participation in the Combat Medic Training.

  WHO IS IT FOR?

PARTICIPANTS

Participants (mostly soldiers or marines) of the Combat Medic training course hold an organic position within an operational combat or combat support unit. Preliminary Life Saver training is desirable, but not mandatory.

BOTH TRAINING INSTITUTES AND OPERATIONAL UNITS

AFG agrees with both Training Institutes and Operational Units on the exact content of the training programme. Both can provide the training. This training course is suitable for Operational Units of the Dutch Defence Department, the Police and its NATO partners.

 DETAILS: ABOUT THE TRAINING COURSE

  • What: Opleiding Combat Medic course.
  • Also known as: Medic training. This training course corresponds to the internationally recognised doctrines of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life Support (BATLS)
  • Where: At your location at the relevant Defence component or barracks, or at a location provided by AFG.
  • Duration: 13 weeks.

  • Refresher Combat Life Saver skills (see Life Saver Training).
  • In-depth anatomy.
  • Trauma fundamentals.
  • Rescue techniques in special environments (High Angle Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, K9).
  • Operational Tactical Medical Planning.
  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care (Care under Fire, Tactical Field Care, Tactical Evacuation Care).
  • Prolonged Field Care (PFC).
  • Training in different locations.
  • Practicing many different scenarios.

The training programme focuses on the following competencies:

  1. Preparing for the mission
    1. Medic analyses health threats and risks based on the mission.
  2. Providing medical care
    1. Medic provides Care Under Fire (CUF) and/or Tactical Field Care (TFC)
    2. Medic treats the sick.
    3. Medic provides Prolonged Field Care (PFC).
